Xerox Solid Ink
Solid ink was originally made by Tektronix for its range of printers up until
1986 when it was bought out by Xerox. Then in 1991 Xerox introduced its own
solid ink printers using solid ink technology. Modern Xerox printers such as
the Xerox Phaser 8560 and the Xerox Phaser 8860 use solid ink sticks instead
of ink cartridges or toner cartridges to print with.
How Solid Ink Works
Most conventional printers use either ink cartridges or toner cartridges to
print with an inkjet printer uses a series of nozzles to spray drops of ink
directly on the paper. A laser Printer uses dry ink known as toner powder; this
is bonded on to the paper using heat and static electricity. Solid ink is non
toxic and resin based and is similar to a wax crayon. The solid ink sticks are
loaded into the printer which melts them and then applies the ink to the paper.
